Charlene’s Story
Charlene is a mother living with a loved one struggling with Borderline Personality Disorder and all that goes with it. She said: “I can truly say that The Sashbear Foundation was the light that gave us hope. The chaos and hopelessness our family was going through when Sashbear was introduced to us, was breaking us apart.
After learning the Sashbear story and taking the Family Connections™ course our family suddenly had hope. It was the peer support and skills brought to me that gave me new hope—hope I had been borrowing for such a long time because I was completely depleted. I felt so alone—like no one understood what I was dealing with. All their “good” advice just did not apply! I was barely surviving, and my daughter was slipping further and further away.
I took a course because I had nothing left to lose. I speak with sincerest honesty that the skills and peer support received during that course saved my sanity and my relationship with my daughter! I will be forever grateful to Sashbear because they gave me a community, reduced my feeling of stigma and empowered me to share my story. Today I’m a [volunteer] mentor who shares hope with those in crisis and stuck for what to do next.
