Ways to Give

“Taking the Family Connections™ course offered by Sashbear was truly life changing for me.”

I am so thankful for the help and support I have received over the years from The Sashbear Foundation. Living with and loving someone with emotional dysregulation can create a challenging environment and one that is often in turbulence.
Taking the Family Connections™ course offered by Sashbear was truly life changing for me.

Although I had read everything about Borderline Personality Disorder that I could find, it only helped me to understand a bit more about my loved one. Taking the Family Connections™ course offered by Sashbear was truly life changing for me. It provided real skills not only to help my loved one but also skills that helped myself in my everyday life. I gained competency in areas such as mindfulness, setting boundaries and limits, and how to de-escalate the situation in the moment versus escalating the emotions of my loved one.

Another great part about the Family Connections course was being able to meet others who are also dealing with similar issues and challenges. Within the course, I was able to immerse myself into real life scenarios through role playing to learn certain skills such as validating and de-escalating situations. It provided insight on validating versus “fixing” and how to successfully use these skills through a variety of spontaneous scenarios with other participants in the group. Not only did it give me the opportunity to hone these skills, I was able to get feedback from the other participants and from the facilitators, which was truly priceless.

I have become a monthly donor as a result, because I understand how beneficial it is for people to get the help they need.

The Family Connections course was free which was amazing, and they also have regular webinars on a variety of topics with experts in various fields that I have found to be extremely helpful.  I have become a monthly donor as a result, because I understand how beneficial it is for people to get the help they need. As well, my grandfather left an inheritance to the family that was to be given to charity, and I chose to donate my portion to Sashbear which I was so pleased to be able to do.

I am truly grateful to The Sashbear Foundation for all that they have done for me and all the awareness that they continue to create about Borderline Personality Disorder and all of its facets.

With much gratitude,

Holly Kassik

Fundraising for Sashbear:
So many ways to get creative and have fun!

In 2016, Marilyn Korzekwa, a 58 year old Hamilton psychiatrist, set out to be the first Canadian to swim the Cook Strait, the body of water that separates the north and south islands of New Zealand. The 30 km swim was a challenge she set for herself. She decided to have people pledge donations to Sashbear for her swim.

Marilyn Korzekwa is an accomplished marathon swimmer and then some. She swam across the English Channel in 2011, and became the first Canadian to complete the Triple Crown of marathon swimming (English Channel, Catalina, Manhattan) in 2014. For more details about this swim and her extensive swimming background please read the press release.
